WE RAISED THIS DWELLING up with our own hands we hewed and planed the rafters and the beams each brick we placed and mortared all the seams foundation laid as we’d foreseen and planned upon a bed of rock and not the sand and when come winds that through dark forests scream and pelt the walls around us while we dream we know an undivided house will stand and though the walls indeed be razed one day by march of years and ravages of rust— the power inexorable that betrays all matter’s forms, transforming them to dust— there will remain, and never pass away another house by bonds eternal trussed within whose walls of light we dwell today ’neath roof of love, upon a floor of trust
